Couple Therapy

Do you feel disconnected, overlooked, or misunderstood by your partner? Do the same arguments or misunderstandings continue to put emotional distance between you? Over time, many couples struggle with emotional distance as a result of problems with communication. These concerns often happen due to trouble figuring out how to overcome differences in personality, preferences, values, or beliefs. Difficult past life experiences in important relationships (both childhood and romantic) and the stresses of life (e.g., parenting, finances, work, health issues) can make it even harder to stay connected over time.

The good news is, couple therapy can help partners move forward and grow closer together. If both partners wish to reconnect and grow together, I can help you rekindle your connection, no matter the distance.

When I begin with any couple, I complete a comprehensive assessment to obtain a deep understanding of the relationship and each partner. After the assessment, I present partners with my observations about the sources of the problems or concerns. I provide my recommendation on ways to change patterns of conflict or emotional distance that are interfering with relationship satisfaction.

Therapeutic Approach

The approach I used is based in Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) and Emotion-Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) in couple therapy. These approaches focus on identifying problematic communication patterns and assisting couples to see and interrupt the patterns causing their distress. This results in a better understanding of each other, strengthening the connection between partners. I offer couple therapy online in 43 US states and DC (exceptions are Alaska, California, Hawaii, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Vermont).
